So does it snooker us into polarity? Does whatever is going on does it thrive on oppositional hatred? And does it make things simple – is it a broad sweep? Does it squinch?

The Sun entered Sagittarius last Tuesday, which is how we time Thanksgiving, it’s not just a colonial hallmark card of a holocaust of indigenous people.. But it is astrologically timed, it is always the first Thursday (Thor’s-day – sacred to Jupiter) after the Sun enters Sagittarius, Jupiter’s realm. And the turkey is the Native American symbol of gratitude and generosity – so there is some real thing there…

This Metaphor-fest – Neptune
Right now the Sun in Sagittarius squares Neptune (increasing over the next six days to exact-ish) and it’s part of how we convene the astrological realm… because in old fogey books they go, “Oh ‘Sun square Neptune’ how can you perceive the truth?” or “disappointed in love” or some damn thing, but it’s what Carl Jung had – Sun square Neptune – which was a lifelong wondering about reality, power of myth, power of dreams, power of symbols… and so that is what’s on our table now.
And last week’s radio guest, John Kiriakou, who was a CIA whistleblower, and he did some bad things and then he did some good things, but I remembered from the previous time when I had posted him on the radio (because he’s kind of a grown up, we don’t know about the metaphysical openness of some people…) but I said ‘Oh, John, you are a Sun in Leo, with the Sun square (90° angle) Neptune, just like Carl Jung,’ and he said, ‘Yes, I know that.’ So I go, Oooh there’s some room there… His life, not exactly like Carl Jung, but it’s full of complexity and illusion… being at meetings where everybody has a cover, and no one is quite telling the truth, and what is real and what’s not… And it’s an interesting journey for him, and also then for us – being able to hold many stories…

Late, great ancestor, Vine Deloria, a wonderful buddy of mine, one of the great Native American leaders of the American Indian movement and all kinds of things… a great spicy Aries guy…
Part of his wonderful quippiness, he was a great bogus detector.
I met him at a conference in Boulder on Star-Lore, and many different tribes coming to present their star-lore cosmology… but me, John Carlson, a great Mayan expert, and some other white people were there, and some of the white people were the designated inheritors of these traditions (Star-lore navigation and whatnot), so some angry Native Americans got up and said, ‘Vine, what are these white people doing at this thing? Why are they here? Why are they appropriating Native American culture?’ And Vine just got up, very collected, very calm, and goes, ‘You’re making this a little awkward, I invited all these white people, these are my guests, and I would certainly like it if there were more Native American kids here, carrying on the traditions of complex study and star-lore and star-navigation .. but they are watching video games. So some are here (yay!) but some white people have been apprenticed to star-lore people for ten, twenty years and it’s part of the complexity of now…’
But the real reason I brought up Vine, is he would also say, ‘Oh so many people are mythologizing themselves..’ He would say, ‘Today, I meet many young activists who are very very serious – about themselves… We (AIM leaders..) were very dedicated and serious about the issues – but always playful among ourselves… ‘
And then backstage, having coffee once, he said, ‘Boulder is full of phonies and right now there is a rise of people who have mythologized themselves, they are all raised by grandfather owl or some damn thing…’ So I go, ‘Some of this is true, and some of this is delusion, and inflation… let’s put some discerning on the table..’ So it’s very right now.
We want to be syncretizing, gathering from our customized affinities, those qualities in nature we see in animals (badgers, coyotes, and seeds that sprout up from cataclysm…), and myths and fairytales, and folk heroes and folk heroines… we want to be weaving a cloak of qualities of what we admire… (remembering the word ‘admire’ means ‘to wonder’ – ‘oooo I want to be like that’)
… putting things on the worktable of discernment – Mythologizing with Humble Cooperation – with these larger, bigger forces. So it’s not about status, or inflation, or compensatory self importance… it’s the authentic thing that prevents the toxicity of the self-mythologizing… which we can run into…

They are moving into this trine, this swoosh, of collaboration…
There is a shadow side of this, of mega fantasy… which is why it’s good for us to be wondering together, to put certain standards in, so as things come in, we go ‘that seems to be a useful illusion (which comes from i-ludo – in the game) – and that seems to be delusion…’
Just suggesting, putting things on the work table… does it lead to a unifying story?
