Apollo and Muses, Athenian red-figure bell krater (4th C BCE)
The Muse of Memory
is invoked by this perfectly poignantly timed Memorial Day,
as Venus in Gemini is on her descending farewell tour…
To re-member, put it all back together…
Mneme was the muse associated with memory.
(daughter of Zeus – One of Jupiter’s Moons)
(Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory)
Anything for which, for whom, we have a name,
we have intimate collaborative access..
Tonight our council mate, &
my long-time ally, Deborah Felmeth
(of Vermont and Syria), joins me as
conversational co-cahooter…
She be the author of splendiferous
photographic memoire of Syria, titled,
“Remember Me”
Deborah invokes details of the Inanna Myth
(the Venus orbital cycle),
available to us, re how to wittily deal
with complaining… (by self and others)
And to honor this,
one of the 3 Nights of Eid….
We also reference the fantabulous movie, “Coco,”
about the importance of remembering the dead
and the below NY Times remarkable aphorism obits,
so very Venus square Neptune –
The vastness of an individual life,
condensed into a sentence.
Poignancy is kinship
and
Grief is love,
Which becomes potent force for good
when we alchemize grief into art…

Honoring the loss of so many elders
in Zuni and Navajo Pueblos,
& in the Jazz community…
We cannot live through the dead,
yet, we can invite the beauty of the dead
to live through us.
This week prepares us for next Sunday’s Pentecost,
one of the better Christian/Pagan syncretizing holy days:
Tis when the Holy Ghost descends as a flaming dove
on the head of each apostle, granting them the capacity
to speak and understand all languages.
We liberate and expand –
to all languages, not merely human…
And each of us, as individual messengers of Big Mind,
can calibrate by dedication and reverie, to which language
and which of the dead we may want to partner.
Anyone who has ever lived,
with whom we share a dedicated craft,
is available now.
“The ancestors have sent us to complete their work!”
Venus Fresco, Pompeii, Casa di Venus (1st C CE)
There goes Venus into the gloaming,
and we with her….
to retrieve what we need
to “find a way outta no-way,
and hit a straight lick with a crooked stick.”
(High John, our mythological ancestor,
be also – standing by.)
Co-Operators are standing by!
(Let’s meet them!)

Aphorism obits So potent –
Venus descending into Underworld,
diasporing a few Gemini words as a
summation of an entire life. Neptune.
And how poignancy is kinship.
& grief is love

Screenshot from Orphée
a memory arose of this film,
as resonant with our guiding mythos:
“Jean Cocteau’s Orphée from 1950 is now re-released nationally,
as part of the BFI Southbank season: Fantastique: The Dream Worlds
of French Cinema. It has the mystery and elasticity of a dream, and all
the farcical comic horror of chancing across the intricate contents of
the Blessed Virgin’s lingerie collection. Cocteau’s reworking of the
Orpheus myth includes new layers of strangeness and rapture.”
