Last night, talking about the podcast, Throughline, I was wracking my brain to remember the name of this book, This morning, my brain came through. (Thank-you, brain.) Humankind:A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman. I read it this summer. It discussed both the Stanford experiments and the true life story that has the same set up as Lord of the Flies (group of young adolescent boys cast up on a deserted island) with real life ending up hearteningly different from William Golding’s imaginings. It’s definitely up the Trickster alley–asking us to adjust our vision of what is humanly possible in a more positive and demonstrably more realistic direction.
