“The Magi give Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, and then return home, for a dream told them to bypass Herod.”

Katherine Neville: “Here it is again: my favorite day of the year, the twelfth day of Christmas – in western tradition, the day that three wise men from the East who’d ‘followed their star,’ came bringing gifts to El Niño Divino’ the divine child. (Today, not Christmas, is the day of gift-giving in Spain.) Shakespeare celebrated it in Twelfth Night, that date when the rubble of the old year is cleared away and all is set right for the new year. But epiphany itself – meaning the sudden manifestation of something like the sun (dawn) or of a spiritual presence (a god) is far older. A ritual dating back to ancient Greece and Egypt marked the night of the beginning of the return of Kore (Persephone) from the underworld, ending the darkness and rubble left by the old year – heralding the return of the sun from southern climes, and the approach of Spring. Kore Kosmou was the prototype ‘Virgin of the World,’ long before Mary, and in later Orphic tradition, her offspring Phanes (meaning “I bring the Light”) created Day, separating light from darkness. He preceded all the gods of Greek Olympus, and was the primeval deity of new generation. So tonight, before the clock strikes twelve (wherever we may be) – let’s shred and shed and sweep away the old year, and plant the seeds for the new cycle that starts with Number 13!”

 

Steve Nelson:  “EPIPHANY Jan 6/18, NEW VENUS Jan 11 and the NEW WHEEL OF YULE Jan 7-18 ~ The New Year zeitgeist or time spirit seeded at Winter Solstice comes to creative expression through the 12 days of Yule culminating with Epiphany Jan 6. What was seeded in the dark of the unconscious at Solstice (Dec 21-24) comes to light during Yule. The 12 days of Christmas or Yule are the zodiacal New Year in embryo from Aries Dec 26 to Pisces Jan 6. Dreams and omens of these 12 days portend what will be in the coming year. The New Year spirit or zeitgeist is fully formed by Jan 6, the last spoke in the 12-spoked Wheel of Yule. This is how the world is created and recreated each year. And yet, the Yule wave of creation isn’t just one wave but many as the wheel of Yule continues to turn. Usually it is the first wave that brings the new year activation, this year 2014 it is the second wave Jan 7-18 because of the new Venus cycle that begins Jan 11.

Woman and all feminine Nature turn inward for a great psychic remaking while Venus is gone from the sky Jan 7-14. This is when Venus goes in for her every 19 month makeover; it is a time for inner quiet to receive the new inspiration and new creative energies that will remake our world. The New Venus in Piscis Austrinis (the Golden Fish) decan Capricorn brings a great new creative awakening that in effect means it is this second turn of the Wheel of Yule Jan 7-18 that brings forth the 2014 new Aeon zeitgeist in us all. Dreams and events Jan 7-18 portend what will be in the coming zodiacal year.

At Epiphany Jan 6 the goddess Kore gives birth to the Aeon, the child of this new time. On Old Epiphany Jan 18 2014 the new Aeon time spirit is reborn through us all in forms that diversely express the archetypal light of this bright new age. This is the time of the new aeon activation, it is when the new avatars awaken, when the world is filled with new light and our souls come home to the world for which we were born. Awakening in this cycle comes through the magic of celebration and group connection on many levels and in many forms.

The Yuletide 12 Days of Christmas celebration culminate with the 12th Night ‘Feast of Fools’ on the evening of Jan 5. The next 12th Night ‘Feast of Fools’ is on Friday evening Jan 17. This will be a wonderful night to party and an ideal time for exchanging gifts. Epiphany is the subject of Shakespeare’s play “Twelfth Night.” 12th Night celebrations were banned in the late Middle Ages when they were found to be so effective for lampooning the established order of church and state. 12th Night is the best time for old world pattern breaking. It is customary to burn the Christmas trees on Epiphany. The most powerful magic comes through fire and the joy of celebration. The more merry making, the better the way is cleared for fresh new beginnings in this bright New Year.

Epiphany celebrates 3 special events all relating to the magic of the water element: the birth of Jesus, the Baptism in the river Jordan and changing water to wine at the wedding feast of Cana. Epiphany also honors the 3 Kings who bring gifts for the new born child. In an earlier parallel tradition, the ancient Egyptians celebrated the Korion or Festival of the Nile on this day (Jan 6 / Jan 18) when the waters of the world are blessed with healing virtue. This is when Kore (Persephone) gives birth to the Aeon, the child spirit or zeitgeist of this new time. An old cycle ends, a New World begins, everyone is born again.

The extended celebration of Christmas and Yule was banned in the Middle Ages because this time proved so effective in challenging both Church and State and in effect remaking the world. In this tradition gifts are given on Epiphany (the 12th Day of Christmas, Jan 6 or, more so this year, Jan 18) rather than Christmas Day which is revered as a holy day. Epiphany means “manifestation of divinity” and it is when in Christian tradition the Magi came bearing gifts. This is also the true date (Jan 6) of the birth of Jesus according to Edgar Cayce who should know, this I believe. This is also the day of the Egyptian Korion that far preceded the birth of Jesus, it is when according to tradition Kore (Kor-ee) gives birth to the Aeon (see Jung’s book Aion for more information about the Korion).

Steve Nelson continues:

The New Aeon Activation begins when the New Venus first becomes visible on or soon after Jan 15. This is the time too when the primordial star dust of the great Sunseed Comet Ison first arrives on Earth perhaps in the form of fiery sparks We have a lot to look forward to but the first order of business now is to clear our psychic emotional channel by whatever means. And this probably means we’re needing to move more, do more exercize, more yoga, tai chi, dance. The Alchemy Bath (see post below) will help too. Our resistances are more in the body than in the mind and these are related. Our resistances need to be let go so we can more easily channel the great current of the new energy soon coming through. The clearing of our psychic emotional channel can more easily (and enjoyably) be done by following the Epiphany and Yule traditions.

In ancient Egypt, January 6th, was celebrated as the Korion. It is the day each year when Kore gives birth to the Aeon, the sacred child of the new cycle. Interesting details of this celebration are described by Carl Jung in his book  Aion, p 103-5. The wooden figure of a boy with crosses on hands and feet is brought up from a dark crypt and bathed in the Nile. This figure was very old by the time Jesus was born. Immersion in the River Nile was customary this day when all the waters of the world were believed imbued with healing power. The tsars of Russia would bathe at Epiphany in holes cut in the ice.

Epiphany is celebrated with merry making that includes water immersion and sacred fire: “The fires of 6 January, the last day of Yule, were regarded with reverence .. many were lit as beacons on headlands and high places, others were regarded as having a definite function in increasing the fertility of fields and orchards…These blazes are often associated with mummers – people dressed up in strange clothes – who use the occasion for feasting.” – Shirley Toulson, The Winter Solstice

Epiphany means “manifestation of divinity.” Epiphany celebrates the birth of Jesus, his baptism in the river Jordan and changing water to wine at the wedding feast of Cana. This is Three Kings Day, the day the 3 wise men came bearing gifts: manifestations of divinity. Jan 6 is the original gift giving day for good reason; it is when the Spirit of the New Year takes physical form. Gifts are best given on Epiphany Jan 6/18, the day of divine gifts.

The Epiphany 2014 astrological chart is drawn for Sunset (in New York City) when 12th Night and Epiphany begin. This chart also portends the nature of the new Avatar who is born on this day. In an unusual way, this Epiphany Jan 6 is like Christmas in most years while the 12 days that follow Jan 7-18 are the true 12 Days of Yule and the evening of Jan 17th will be 12th Night in this cycle of time. The chart for Epiphany Jan 6 tells the course of this New Year and the nature of this new avataric consciousness that can set the world right.

Most prominent in this chart is a Grand Trine in water signs overlapping a Grand Square in cardinal signs. The water sign Grand Trine eases our way into higher consciousness and, with Neptune in Pisces, makes us all increasingly more psychic and compassionate. Water signs deepen feeling connection and love. This is why we don’t kill each other so much any more, we are becoming increasingly aware of how others feel in relation to ourselves as we become more and more globally (Neptune in Pisces) aware.

Cardinal signs initiate, bring new beginnings. The Grand Square in cardinal signs at the turn of this year signifies a new transformative global alchemy, creative manifestation and Planetary Initiation. Most prominent in this Grand Square is ‘the great benefic’ planet Jupiter rising exalted in Cancer and conjunct the bright stars Sirius and Canopus directly opposite the Sun. This exact opposition or Full Jupiter at Epiphany is one of the celestial markers for the new Aeon awakening. This Cardinal Grand Square invokes the Great Return, the Return of the King and Return of the Queen, the Aeon Activation and the beginning of the Aquarian Renaissance. This is the Year of the Horse (from Jan 30) that signals the awakening of the long awaited White Horse Avatars.

A new Avatar or great world teacher comes every 500 years. In this time the avataric awakening comes through a group avatarship apropos to the Age of Aquarius. The White Horse Avatar, the Avatar of Synthesis, comes from beyond our plane of existence, from far beyond this solar system – like the comet Ison. According to the prophecies, this transcendent being descends to the level of the astral plane and from there focuses spiritual power through a magic triad formed by the Christ (our solar logos), the Earth’s Manu (a focusing power of divinity for humanity) and the 1st ray master Morya (source of the Agni Yoga teachings). Through this divine triangle many thousands of avatars (avatari) are initiated and grow in light until the world achieves its great Initiation in 2014.”
